Tahirah Ogletree is an author, actress, indie-filmmaker, domestic violence survivor, and advocate. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Tahirah is also a charismatic leader, visionary thinker, and entrepreneur who retired after 13 years of working for one of the largest financial institutions in America to establish her production company in 2012, O’Tahirah Films, LLC. Shortly after producing two short films, “Battered, But Not Broken” and “Phoenix Finest In Blue”, Tahirah was rated as one of America’s top-inspiring African American women by Blow Fashion Magazine
Known for her ambitious spirit and powerful drive, Tahirah’s mission to extend a heart of compassion and a message of inspiration, courage, and hope to anyone impacted by domestic violence led her to an even more noteworthy venture.

In 2014, Tahirah began her journey towards an innovative vision that would take three years to develop, igniting the birth of a new brand, awareness campaigns, a clothing line, a community hero awards paired with a red carpet gala, and ultimately the creation of The O’Tahirah Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. The O’Tahirah Foundation, Inc. provides support to female and male victims, adults and children alike, and batterers who are seeking to change their behaviors. The Foundation’s mission is to empower the silent to share their stories through innovative approaches, testimonials, film, and educational documentaries. The Foundation also provides a 7 day, all expenses-paid, 19-step Survivors’ Retreat Program. The retreat is designed to restore, educate, and empower the lives of the battered.

But the journey has not stopped with just the Foundation. The bold, innovative O’TAHIRAH® brand became a public registered trademark, and Tahirah’s vision brought to life with her 2016 coffee table book, SURVIVORS Celebrating Life Beyond Domestic Violence. Dedicated to every victim and survivor of domestic violence, the purpose of the pictorial collection is to empower, inspire, educate, and help save and change lives, partly by bridging the gap between survivors and former batterers.

Together on the same platform, the contributors raise awareness to help eradicate domestic violence, uniting both sides through shared powerful testimonies and humbling confessions, and teaching that ultimate healing comes through forgiveness. Dedicated to ending decades of silence and breaking generational curses, this empowering coffee table book is intended as a celebration of the beauty that all survivors have within. It’s a reminder to everyone that there is life beyond the deadly grips of domestic violence, and is filled with inspiring quotes, tips on how to detect the early warning signs of domestic violence, tear-jerking testimonials from survivors around the world, Tahirah’s own autobiography, a list of domestic violence hotlines with 24/7 access to highly trained advocates for immediate support and much more.

The next piece added to The O’Tahirah Foundation, Inc. arsenal was the annual Red Carpet Gala Community Courage Awards.  The O’Tahirah Foundation,Inc. has future plans to partner with NFL players and other community leaders for the gala in order to recognize survivors and persons dealing with abuse and to give back to the community. The Courage Awards are designed to bring hope, inspiration, and self-worth to specific people impacted by domestic violence. From victim to survivor, through God, faith, and perseverance, Tahirah has conquered each obstacle in her life. She truly believes that the word “NO” is an opportunity for a future “YES.” With a passion for life, ambition to follow her dreams, and a heart of compassion, Tahirah will inspire many others to do the same.
